Show Support for Team USA Sailing!
The other day the Charter Advisors crew was sitting around the table tossing ideas around about how we could show support for the USA Olympic Sailing team. A ribbon? No. A button. Ugh, no! A decal? Ahh... Don't think so. The question was this... How could American sailors show our support for Team USA Sailing in a "sailor" sort of way? All we could agree on is that it had to be cool. None of us had a good answer. So we dropped it and went back to work. Later that day one of the crew said, "Hey guys! Check this out!" He was loading some new images onto our Instagram page when he stumbled on an image of something brilliant. A bracelet of all things. And it was cool!
Specifically an understated bracelet with a square knot, made from sailing cord. White with red and blue markings from Lemon and Line's Heritage Collection. (LemonAndLine.com). As it turns out, Lemon and Line makes authentic, nautically inspired bracelets in the sailing capital of the world, Newport, Rhode Island. Perfect! This was just what we were looking for, something we'd be proud to recommend to our readers and wear ourselves as a sign of USA Olympic Sailing Pride and Support. But, we still had a few questions...
We got in touch with Lemon and Line and spoke with the founder David. Our first question for him was probably the most important: Are you a sailor? His answer was short; "My favorite drink is rum, does that answer your question?" It did. We had an actual sailor making things for sailors. Double cool. We had to know, how does a sailor get inspired to start making jewelry in the first place? So we asked. Again, the answer started where a sailors story should. "It was over a ration of Dark and Stormys that it all began." David, being a lifelong sailor had one of those turks head bracelets on his wrist and it was getting more than a bit weathered. That worn bracelet and the "Dark and Stormys" inspired him to make something a new, different, and removable! David set out to make his new rope bracelet, kicking off his company Lemon and Line on that "Dark and Stormy" night.
Lemon and Line debuted their original square knot bracelet in 2010. Now they offer a large selection of styles, colors, and sizes (including kids sizes) that even appeal to (gasp), the non-sailor. We especially love that they only use marine grade materials, and the deep appreciation David conveyed for each order and customer email he receives.
Now this is a kind of product and business we can get behind. And the right product to showcase our support for our Olympic Sailing Team! The red, white, and blue square knot bracelet is a perfect expression of USA Sailing pride, produced by a sailor here in the good ol' USA who had an idea for a small business over proper sailing drink. It doesn't get more authentically "American sailor" than that!
So, we encourage all of our readers to show your support. Go pick one up for yourself, your family, and sailing buddies, wear your country's colors proudly, and show your support for Team USA Sailing!
