Charter Advisors' How To Guide
Why mention local culture in a How-To section? Well, if your intention is to go ashore, knowing a bit about the people you're going to meet will help more than you know. The local guidebooks will give you a pretty good idea of how the local folkways and mores work, but humbleness, happiness, manners are universal. The Caribbean folks we have met though the years have better manners than most people we know in the "real world." Simple things like saying good morning, good afternoon, good evening when passing others on the street is the norm and almost expected in the Caribbean. By saying nothing to anyone you're being rude. But how would you know this unless you bone up a bit? Or.. just start with good manners and respect (the trick is knowing what is and isn't respectful).
